Steve Knightley - 'The Winter Yards Tour'

Renowned songwriter Steve Knightley, former Show of Hands frontman, brings his ground-breaking nationwide solo tour to Flowerfield, and marks a profound shift in his musical journey.

A born storyteller, he delivers haunting narrative songs that blend historical narratives with contemporary themes. Expect a powerful and evocative continuation of his influential legacy in acoustic music.

In 1994 Knightley formed Show of Hands with Phil Beer. Peter Gabriel described them as 'one of the great English bands'. He earned the title of Tom Robinson's Songwriter of the 90's and has won three BBC Folk awards. In 2016, he was the artistic director of the 'Shrouds of the Somme' installation, and has collaborated with actors Jim Carter and Imelda Staunton on an album of Great War poetry and music.

Songs like 'Country Life' and 'Arrogance, Ignorance and Greed,' underscore his commitment to addressing social issues and earned him recognition at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. He reaches with heart and soul into folk and trad songs with compositions like 'The Galway Farmer' and 'Cousin Jack', which is now taught in Cornish schools. In 2014 he began the ground-breaking 'Grow your Own Gig' tour empowering local communities to host concerts without financial risk.

With more than 4,000 performances and over fifty appearances at Glastonbury, Knightley has had an enduring impact on audiences worldwide.

Described by Tony Hall as 'a showman and craftsman at the peak of his powers' and praised by Mark Radcliffe for writing 'some of the best songs in the last twenty years'.

Steve Knightley's essence was perhaps best described by Robin Denselow of The Guardian as 'the gravel-voiced spokesman of the rural poor'.

With stories and songs of the people, Steve Knightley gives his audiences banter, history, storytelling and songs to make your heart break and soar. Don't miss him.
